Palmdac

Way back when, in 1990,
as an internal development project, we designed, prototyped, manufactured and
sold a data acquisition module. The unit, Palmdactm, was compatible with
the original palmtop, an Atari Portfoliotm. The 1.3 pound system
(including the palmtop) allowed the user to collect data on
up to 6 analog channels at 1024 Hz aggregate, display data in
text or graphics in real-time, while storing data in credit card
RAM. The unit enabled a user to program in their native PC environment
('C', Assembly, Fortran, Basic, etc.), link with libraries provided by us, and
then download executable code to the Portfoliotm. The system also
included PC software written in 'C', and QuickBasic, was used display and post process
data. The product received Readers Choice awards in EDN and Personal
Engineering magazines in 1990.
